Algebra Week 4 Term 4

This is the problem and I will explain how to work it out -
5(6x−2)+9=179

30x + −10 + 9=179
The reason I did this working is because 5 x 6x = 30x, so I simplified it to just say 30x.  5 x -2 = -10, so I combined those as well. I also needed to add on the 9 at the end still. This got me to 30x + -10 + 9 = 179

30x -1 + 1 = 179 + 1
Now I am making this a balanced equation.  -10 + 9 = -1, so I simplified it again. After I had done this, I used -1 to make this a balanced equation.

30x = 180       30x/30 = 180/30
Now I divide to work out the value of x.  30x/30 equals x. So 180/30 = the value of x.
180 divided by 30 is 6, so that is the value of x.

x=6

I have liked algebra this week, and the group work has been ok. Can't wait for more maths next week!!! : /

Algebra Substitution

Here is a link explaining substitution:
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1XsdlWhJFcjg2EOgoddUyjtyCQIbQva7doLJzL2uuoQI/edit#slide=id.p

This week we have been doing substitution in maths.  It has been cool.  I liked it.  It was interesting.  I did the substitution.  I did it good.  So did other peeps.  We did some group work as well, and it was... interesting.

Algebra Reflection

I have really liked algebra for this term.  It has been interesting to learn different techniques to solve the division.  I think group work isn't a good idea, and nobody seems to like it.  Some people find it easy, and some people find it too hard.  The people who find it too hard just don't do anything, and the others end up doing it all.  I prefer doing individual work, and working things out on my own.

`My experience in groups

The group norms that our class has come up with are
1. Listen to each other
2. Participate in your group
3. Be patient

I try to listen to everyone in the group and participate, but quite often my group members don't.  I often do all of the work and even if I try to get them to, they just don't participate.

I could try to get my group more motivated, but if they aren't going to do anything then it is hard for me to get them to.

I am grateful for being in a school where I can be put in groups and can get an education, but it could be better.

Philosophical Math Drawing : /

This is our cartoon about maths that I did with Louis.  It is saying that good mathematicians may get distracted, but great mathematicians are focused.
The group norms are good because they are necessary for group work, but I still don't like working in a group.

Maths Angles

Work out the value of the angles a-f.
Here is a table for you to answer angles 1-6, and give a reason for why each angle is that value.

Math's Probability Question

Start off by getting a soccer ball and a line of 20 people.  Get each person out of the 20 to try and kick the
ball into the goal from the halfway line.

Times the goal was missed
Times the goal was scored
13
7

Using the example, what is the probability that someone will score out of those 20 people.
Write your answer in a decimal.

The answer would be 7/20.  We still need to convert the answer to decimals.  7/20 is equal to 35/100,
so it would be .35

9 Int Bullying Video

13/06/2019     Term 2 Week 7

In our integrated studies class, we had a task to make a video about a social issue.  In our group we chose to make our video about bullying.  We had to film it on a mobile phone, so it wasn't the greatest quality.  In my opinion we spent too much time filming, and so we didn't have enough time to get the video ready.  We had to improvise sometimes, because our 4th group member was away so we had to prop the phone up that was filming.  We still have to learn how to edit the video online, and get it ready to present.  The video took ages to upload for some reason, so we had to wait for a whole lesson.  I now know that I sound a heap different than I think I do, because when I was watching the video it sounded like I was someone else talking.  I also think I look weird on film.

Maths Week 5

This week our group has been working on adding and subtracting fractions, and ordering fractions. I think ordering fractions has been the hardest. It hasn't necessarily been hard, but has been very time consuming. You have to convert every fraction so they have the same denominator, and you can see what fraction is bigger. You just have to be prepared to take your time, and work through it sometimes slowly.

Here is a link to a google drawing.

Maths Fractions 24 May 2019

In maths this week we have learned fractions.  We have been looking at simplifying fractions, equivalent fractions.  Equivalent fractions sometimes take a while to work out.  To do well in simplifying fractions you need to know division well.

Should Autistic Students Should Have More Government Support

I think that the government should put more money into support for autistic students at public schools.  They should pay for as much support as they can for them.  They spent 1 million dollars on frozen slushie machines for prison guards around New Zealand, when that could have been a million dollars of support for autistic students.

Autistic students can be distracting or disruptive in peoples classes, and that's not fair on the other students.  If autistic people go to public schools they need support.  They can get overwhelmed by noises and social interactions, and that may prevent their learning and their classmates learning.

It isn't fair that prison guards get 1 million dollars of slushie machines, and there are autistic people who's parents can't afford to support them.  The government should fund more money for autistic students, and less money for unnecessary things.
